High irregular idle

When I start the truck , hot or cold the idles @ 2k~ 2.5k put her reverse or drive she drops down to 900~1k. I live on the east coast the avg temps 45 degress but will get much colder soon. Any ideas?

97 discovery SD 125,000 miles

Possible stepper motor issues... I would also check the fuel pump/fuel pressure/fuel filter to ensure your getting the right amount of fuel.

Without going threw any other posts, can you state what maintence has been done lately on the vehicle?

It had the 120,000 miles service. about 5 weeks ago ck engine lite came on, took her to the dealer ... air sensor, and purge valve that what the diagonistic said. I did'nt replace p-valve. I felt it was a splash code. truck was runnin good. the ck eng lite comes on alot more now. A whole year no problem or lites, had the truck 14 months but only drove 10,000 miles in her. was taking my car to work til my brother borrowed it. About 7 weeks ago. The ck eng lite was on 2 weeks ago 'evapor sensor out of range' , when I had my old mechnic do the rear rotors and pads. The ck eng lite is on now but was on prior to the idle issue. Going to mechcanic today to see why this time.

I had a '95 Discovery and there was an idle dial underneath the hood by the engine. You can turn that, just like turning a volume dial on a stereo up and down. Maybe try turning it down and see if it fixes the problem. Be careful not to turn it to low though, otherwise it will die...not sure if the '97 even has one but I thought I'd just offer up what worked for me.

on way to pick up purge valve, reason for ck engine light. the idle problem no solution as of yet.

replace purge valve. need to get idle right. a guy said it was mcu but descriped it to me as the air flow meter??? any clue.. I'm a newbie w/Land Rovers.... help

Air flow meter is the MAF (Mass Air Flow) Meter.... you can clean this with some non-residue contact cleaner....
