I just had my first oil change done post the "free" ones performed during warranty. I didn't take it to Land Rover, but just to a shop who I've been using for 15 years or so and trust. My question is, does anyone know how to reset the "oil change service" message on the dash display that shows up on start-up? I know on my Mercedes ML I had to go through an intricate series of button pushing and ignition key settings to get the service warning to reset, and I'm assuming that the LR3 will be something similar and not something that has to be done at LR.

Alright, I googled around and found this pdf file with instructions for many cars:

https://uascentral.uas.alaska.edu/onlinelib/Fall-2007/AUTO227-J01/Oil_Change_Light_Reset.pdf

Here's what it says about the LR3:

"LR3 2005-2006 - Press and hold button at the end of the turn signal. Turn ignition to the "II" position. Keep button pressed until lamp flashes and release. Press and
hold button again until "RESET" message appears. "

I'm at work and haven't tried it yet, but when I do I'll post the results. Not sure if this works for newer models.

Well, I tried it every way I could think, and it didn't work. I then came acroos this at Edmunds:

* Press and hold the trip reset button.
* Turn the igntion to position II
* The display should flash SERVICE for 5 seconds and then display SERVICE constantly.
* Release the reset button with 10 seconds, and you'll see "OIL" on the display.
* Within 10 seconds, hold down the trip reset button for more than 5 seconds and the oil counter will be reset. (If you hold for less than 5 seconds, the reset will be skipped.)
* Repeat the last step for "INSPECT" and "DATE", for Inspection Service and Date Service, respectively.

This also did not work. Oh well. . .

To my knowledge, there may be no way to reset the service counter at home. I remember trying the process that was documented in one of the stale GTR tech articles years ago, and it never worked. So, your current experience matches mine...

You can, however, ask your dealer to permanently turn the counter off like mine. Ignoring the little warning works, too.
