i have a 96 d1 with ignition switch trouble. the key will turn all the way back till the radio is off but wont go on back to get the key out. i bought a new switch, but still have problem. was looking for a way or a wire to cut that will disable the park switch. if i could disable it or make it think it is in park all the time i think the key will come out all the time. this got really bad after a night in the teens, where it had rained heavy during the day and water leaked into the consol, where it froze and i had to pull really hard to get it into drive. this broke the indecater strip which shows what gear your in. big thanks to any that can help

sounds like you found the actual problem. The Shift lever/linkage needed adjusting so the switch will activate when it's in Park. The problem may not have been the key in the first place. Don't cut the wire, fix the linkage and switch on the console.
