Howdy all. I test drove a used lr4 loaner today and pushed the instant mpg (button at end of left arm on steering column which cycles through avg mpg and some other items I cant remember).

It noted 30mpg + while driving 50-55 on an access road. Based on what ive read on this board and its 17 mpg highway mileage, what gives? Is this possible or accurate?

cruising at a constant 55 sure...as soon as your drive 70-90mph or accelerate at full throttle your mileage will drop to 17-19. I get 16.5 regularly in mixed city and highway driving.

Thanks. Do you mean average drops to 17-19 or that you only get an instant mpg of that much dring 70?

If you take it easy on the highway 22 to 24 is possible. I don't find the LR4 to be a gas guzzler. Considering the power and weight. It's actually pretty efficient if you ask me.

Computer average I'm getting is typically 15.x and after hand calculating its usually in the 14.x range for the average.

Instant on the highway fluctuates anywhere between 16-30.x

I'm in Canada so we're Liters / 100KM. The LR4 is rated for 11.7 Liters / 100KM highway. But when I'm in instant is sometimes drops down to 4-6 Liters / 100KM.

My experience is that I find the fuel economy really bad for city driving, however, highway is good.

The reason we bought the LR4 is for more room. With two kids, a big dog and cargo we had to get a big Thule for the roof of our Volvo. On weekend trips to the cottage the Thule killed the gas millage. We hope to avoid getting one for the LR4.

I regularly do a trip of about 2.5 hours that features a half-half mix of freeways and divided state highways (with red lights). In warm weather, it's no issue getting 20 mpg
