Intermittent Starting Probs.

First off, I'd like to say how comforting it is to find a forum where so many people have a passion for their vehicles and LR's in general. Makes me feel right about purchasing my first LR.

Here's my issue....I just got a really good deal on a high-milage (90k) 2001 DII SE. I've had it for about a week now and it has stalled or not started a couple of times.

It will turn over, so I'm certain its not the battery. It sounds like its not getting enough fuel or that the fuel pump isn't working. But the funny thing is, when it does start, it has zero signs of any problems. Starts without a hitch.

Until today I haven't had a check engine light, but now it is lit.

There's really no rhyme or reason to when the prob happens.

When speaking to the past owner he seemed to think it might be a security problem with the key...the keyless entry portion is easily removed. (yes, he's providing with a new key)

So, my question is. . .would the key/security have anything to do with it not starting? And has anyone else had this issue and what steps can be taken to diagnose the prob and fix without breaking the bank, so to speak.

The key/security could be an issue, but with 90k on the disco, I would wonder about a few other things, like repair/work history. Fuel pressure at the rail. Last plug/wire change.

Could be anything from the fuel pump, to a sticking relay, to fuel injectors leaking....

I'm now getting a green M & S blinking when it stalls.

Any clue what those mean?

There was no owners manual included with the vehicle.
