Iphone 4 ipod play?

I have been trying to get my Iphone to play the ipod in the docking station (center console) and it's not playing over the car speakers.. any ideas on how to get it to play? thank you!

If you are using the USB cable connection it doesn't connect to the stereo. You need the OEM iPod cable to play music from you apple device through the stereo system.
