After reading the service bulletin for this device, I found out it does NOT support the 2, 4, or 8 gig nanos, which is what I use. Is that true?

Bummer.

Anyone tried the ipod integration with one of these nanos?

There was a guy on the UK site that placed his on Ebay after discovering the same. Believe he said LR was coming out with another version later this year that would accomodate the 2,4, & 8g nanos.

To my knowledge, there will be a new "cradle/dock adapter" for Nano G2... and not really a full "new version." I think it'll be extra, even after it's released... but I'm not sure. Either way, it's really expensive for how little is does... (compared to the $30 Belkin Charger + AUX solution)

Here is some information on how it works with the iPod:

"The iPod is connected to the ACM via a docking cradle, located on the outboard side of the steering wheel.

Operating the iPod via the Audio System

When connected to the vehicle's audio system, the AUX input bypass switch must be in the active position and the AUX button on the audio system must be selected.

Once selected the audio system will allow you to activate the iPod.

Track/Playlist Selection

The menu displayed on the iPod can be used to select the tracks you wish to play.

Track selection can also be made using the steering wheel controls:

- Press track up or down once to change the track

- Press and hold the track up or track down for 2 seconds to change the playlist. When in Artist or Album mode, the iPod will commence playing playlist 1.

- Press and hold the track up or track down for more than 2 seconds to activate cue or review.

- Press and hold telephone hang-up button for 2 seconds (where fitted) to toggle between shuffle on and off. Shuffle can also be selected through the iPod menu if telephone is not fitted. See iPod instructions for details. The shuffle sequences are as follows: OFF, SONGS, ALBUMS

Note: When a track has been selected from 'Playlsits', 'Albums' or 'Artists' and the starter switch is reset (turned off and on), the track will continue to play and you can scan through the tracks using controls as usual.

To play all tracks:

Press 'Menu'.
Select 'Shuffle'.
Press 'Select'.

The iPod will now play all tracks. Press and hold the telephone hang-up button for 2 seconds (where fitted) for toggle random or artist order play. For further details refer to your iPod user manual.

Repeat and Scan

The vehicle's audio system does not allow selection of the repeat and scan features. Set the required feature on the iPod before connecting to the vehicle.

Note: Audio system buttons cannot be used for controlling the ACM."

By going this route, will the sound be better than using the Belkin?

I hope so!!

I doubt it would be significantly better. The Belkin uses the "wide" connector, not the headphone jack. And it is a hard wired solution, not a radio transmittor. Also, your scan/rip rates make more impact on overall playback quality.

The adapter offers some features, but not enough to really matter for my use.

However, at least it allows for USB stick connection. That is the low cost route, no iPod or MP3 player needed.

The volume is more matched, supposedly... over line-out (the iPod connector) and the Belkin charger. So, since humans generally think higher volume = better sound (this is why volume matching is critical to double-blind testing)... it might sound better to you. The reality is, it'll be the same quality... since it comes in through the same AUX wiring.

LR004805 kit

goggle searched that part number and found that they are available at select LR dealers.

i also found this aftermarket company that sells a "stripped" version (no cradle or ACM).
Here is link to the online tutorial

Just a FYI: I recently confirmed that the volume is no more matched than any iPod using audio off the dock connector. So, the $30 Belkin solution is the same loudness/quality. What do you expect, since it just uses the same factory AUX input? Oh, well.
