Hello,

I hope that this message finds you well. I wanted to post to see if anyone has experienced a particular problem I experienced last night with my 2011 LR4. I recently purchased the vehicle used a few months ago and have not had any issues up until now. However, last night while I was driving, all of a sudden the vehicle began to shake and I noticed that there was smoke coming from the rear right tire (not directly from the tire, but from that area). It smelled like it could be a brake issue, but the brakes were replaced when I purchased the vehicle, so they should only be a few months old. I decided to leave the vehicle for a few hours, and when I came back to it, I was able to drive it home for approximately 50 miles without the shaking or smoke. When I got home and turned it off, I looked at the tire, and I heard a noise as if a machine was shutting down.

Any help or insight about this would be much appreciated.

Thank you.

Sounds like your park brake locked up. When they did the rear brakes back when you purchased the car, do you remember if they did replace the rear rotors along with the pads? Who did the work, an independent garage pr a dealer? Chances are they did not unmount / mount the park brake shoes properly when they replaced rotors back there, there is a specific procedure they need to follow for this. Have your EPB components (shoes, drum, cables, brake module) inspected as soon as possible for wear, as those shoes may seize again.

yup what he said^^^^

take it for a quick drive. get out and see if you can touch the rear wheels with your hand close to hub....be careful and do not burn your hand? see if one wheel is hotter than the other. if so the rear emergency pads are the problem. you may have already burn them down if you do not see the problem. I bet you can feel the car shake when hard breaking coming to a stop and therefore one of the rear rotors are warped.
