I have a 1996 LR that wont start. It was driving fine, than all the sudden it wont start. The gas gauge stopped working at the same time, which puzzled me. I dont think the fuel pump is the problem, because the gas gauge is not connected to it, nor the collision off switch, or does it? The truck cranks strong, but doesnt seem to have any gas going in. I've checked the fuse, and collision switch, but I cant tell if the collision switch is good or not. What do you think is wrong...THANKS .oh and tried the alarm thingy too, no luck

Acually the gas gauge is part of the fuel pump.... sounds like either the fuel pump relay (check for clicking near the passenger foot area) or the fuel pump has kicked the bucket.

Fuel pumps don't allways give an indicator that they are going to die....

Have someone listen in the back when you first turn the key on to the point the lights on the dash come on. If no sound from the rear, and you hear the relay click, then I would put money on the pump.

You are right, the fuel gauge does connect to the fuel pump. I crawl under the truck and saw a loose cable to the fuel pump, plugged it back in and everthing is working again. Now I gotta figure out how to fix the brake lights. My one and only rear top brake lights stopped working on me too. I've checked the fuse, brake switch(under the paddle), cleaned the bulbs holders on each side of the rear. It was very rusty, all my other lights work fine. Have you ever had this problem before?..THANKS FOR YOUR HELP JOEY!!

I Have never had this issue, but I would lean toward bad connections... Have someone take a volt meter and connect directly to the wires going to the bulbs, not the connector, they should see voltage. If they do, the connectors for the bulbs are bad. It happens in all make and models of vehicles at some point. Corrosion kills.
