Hello All!

Just got my LR4 yesterday.

Zermatt Silver with Ebony. Lux + vision package.

Love it so far. Had to drive it across the pass after pickup with lots of snow. Loved the way it handled it.

Called the service department to get a quote for the iPod cable and running boards

ipod cable - $106
running boards - $1500-1600 double

There are a few places online that sell the iPod cable for about $76 dollars, a little easier to swallow. Congrats on the new LR4! I was just saying how much I love mine all weekend. :)

Congrats on the purchase! If you ever plan to go offroad, don't waste money on running boards - you'll crush them beyond recognition. Spend the money on sliders from Rover Specialties or =.

Wouldn't a running board kind of act as a slider? I'm confused... maybe I don't understand how sliders work...

Sliders are cool, I think the running boards, the really wide ones, look funny on any SUV. I just don't like the look. But sliders, the bar only, that's cleanly tucked, are great and very useful.

A running board is basically just a step to enter or exit the vehicle. They are usually hollow and simply bolt on to the existing body sill in some fashion. They will not support the vehicle weight at all if you "high center" on top of an obstacle. A rock, tree or ledge will most definitely damage them beyond repair if you fail to clear the obstacle.

A slider is designed to bear the vehicle's weight for a short period of time and allows you to "slide" over the obstacle without causing any body damage. Some sliders will mount to the sills and others will mount to the frame. This will give you a better idea of what I am talking about -

What would be a good place to mount them? The dealership wants ~$500 to install them. 3 hrs of labor.
