I don't mean it keeps on ticking in a good way but it ticks when it idles and will eventually stop when I hit the gas, was wondering what it was. I had the pan dropped and they told me it was as clean as it could possible be. I have a 2000 land rover discovery with 76,000 miles on her and run synthetic oil in her. I was wondering if it could be lifters and if so could there be a correlation between this problem and the problem with my 4th gear sputter at low rpms. Really getting tired of this truck, they have this reputation of being able to go anywhere the trail can take you but what they don't tell you is that driving on the highway or any other road to the trail your rover will probably break on they way. If i can't fix this problem this will be my last land rover for good!

I don't think that your problems are connected. The ticking noise at idle could simply be your engine oil level is a little low, however, with regards to your 'stumble' in 4th gear (at low RPM's) it could be your coil needs replacing. What might be happening, is that it is not producing a strong enough spark.

Thanks for the information, my oil level is perfect so I don't know what the deal is with that problem. As far as my coil needs to be replaced, is there any way to figure if so myself easily without having to take it to the dealership?

I take the cap off the dist. from the coil - leave it right next to the point on the cap + crank the truck to see if the spark jumps from the coil to the cap. Don't shock yourself, its not a good jolt.
