I need an intelligent answer and seeing that you guys drive LR's you must be intelligent! Please help me understand how LR can launch the offroad king-of-kings but neglect the most important part, being proper tyres. I currently own a 2010 LR4 Diesel - previously enjoyed the LR 3 and Defender 110 DC. I live and play in Namibia where less than 20% of the roads are tarred. In the past year I used 12 gator patches on the Wrangler M+S they come out with as standard. Then decided to change to Pirelli Scorpions at great expense. Great tyre burt will not give me 25000km on our gravel roads. Written off a tyre about a month ago and started looking for a replacement. To cut a long story short - the earliest I can expect any tyre to fit (ie Wrangler, Pirelli or MTR's) in Namibia is another 3 weeks. At almost double the price I paid for my previous Pirelli's!!! You see most tyre dealers know we are in a fix and charge whatever they want, knowing that you will have to take it or end up stuck somewhere in the middle of nowhere without a spare. In the meantime I do not wander offroad at all - and drive around with a spare borrowed from my father in law!
Is this fair from a brand such as LR? A car that costs a touch more than average?! Do the guys designing the cars use them as they are advertised to be - go everywhere in luxury? Better not travel on gravel roads then!
Possibly I will have to fork out another U$6000 for tyres and R18 rims, or sell my current headache and shame for something that can actually drive off road. Is there light in the end of the tunnel? Do you feel a touch disappointed in the brand? Tyred of being the laughing stock of all the Toyota guys! Comments wellcome! Advice even more.

Welcome to the forum. First I would never buy a vehicle with larger than 18 inch wheels for off roading and may not buy them with 18 inch wheels depending on where I live. LR like every other luxury brand out there are gearing more toward the high end crowd that sadly never uses them off road. With that in mind 90% of the people who do off road don't do it daily.

Sadly I would recommend smaller rims and ask what works best in your area from locals that drive it with larger vehicles.

Just interested to know how much you would pay for vs what we pay for these tyres in beautiful Namibia :
Pirelli Scorpion 255/55 R19 N$ 5700 per tyre (U$792)
Wrangler MTR (if we could find) 255/55 R19 N$ 4300 per tyre (U$597)
