I'm bought a 2006 Lr3 in the Spring and after 13K kilometres, still love it. I have been towing a 10 ft tent trailer and am trying to upgrade to a 25ft travel trailer. My problem is the hitch height compatibility between the LR3 and the trailer. The trailer is 21" of the ground the the LR3 is about 14" to the centre of the ball.
I have read the manual and it says no more than a 2 3/4" rise on the draw bar.

Can anyone help with some advice from their own experience? thxs

Cheers, 40lr3:hello::rolleyes:

Look at the thread for "Electric Brake Control and Towing". I have been using a hitch with a 4 1/2" drop TURNED UPSIDE DOWN. I have a Starcraft rough terrain pop-up and have towed for over 6000 miles without issue. Given a choice between having a trailer that doesn't sit level or having the hitch height outside the LR recommended range, go with the level trailer.

I tow a 6500 lb boat and I use a 2 1/2" rise ball mount, which I think is about a 4" drop if turned over. This is a heavy-duty one-piece (not welded) hitch that is rated for something like 12,000 lbs (I don't have it here in front of me). The manual does state that you should not exceed a hitch rise of 2 3/4" and I think that's because you would increase the effective tongue weight due to the increased torque from the longer hitch (usually they go up and angle back, if it just went up, then you it could be OK). Since I'm towing so much weight, I didn't want to be out of specs. As it turns out the 2 1/2" rise is about perfect.

I had the same concerns with my hitch haul. I bought a 6" rise to make sure the cargo carrier doesn't drag but still allows my rear hatch door to open. I got mine from Blue Ox and they have many different heights available and they are heavy duty. I've been very pleased with mine. Good luck!

I keep it at 500 lbs. or so, but I've towed jet skis, boats and golf cars on trailers and everything works fine. I got my hitch haul from uws and it's made from aluminum alloy so it's strong but yet light weight enough to handle easy. http://www.uwsta.com/

Do you have the name of that tow riser? A 2 inch rise would be around perfect for mine.

From your photo in the other thread, you can get the new redesigned hitch that is much higher

I wish I knew that when I purchased. I got a deal on the tow package for buying the car. Paid 230.00 for wiring install with 2 types of plugs (round and flat) plus that lower set receiver with key.

I found one with a 2 inch riser that should be ok. I would doubt the dealer woud trade me for the newer one you have pictured. I probably got the deal because they had a old one laying around the shop.

Is the new one that much better? Its like 550.00,
