OK, so it sounds like everyone is having success with magnecor wires.

I dropped my 2003 disco off at an independent LR tech for an electrical problem. He might be removing the intake to inspect all wire harnesses so i figured i'd have him throw on new wires for me since he'd be there already.

anyway, he said he'd put them on, but his issue was that the wires did not have the ceramic washers around the plug to fit on the ignition coil posts. He said, with the strong ingition system on the rovers he's seen wires w/o those ceramic washers evenutally flare away from the ignition posts.

he said chance might be small, but something i should consider because of the labor cost to replace.

Has anyone had an issue with their wires? and (which i forgot to ask the tech) do the ceramic inserts in factory wires pop out to possibly place on magnecor wires?

Note: i was on the phone with magnecor before ibought my wires and went with the 7mm. My concern was fit, on the 8mm. the magnecor guy said the 8s fit 95% and should be fine...but on a stock engine, the only benefit the 8s have is slightly better temperature resistance...but that there is no performance advantage of the 8s over the 7s (on a stock engine).

I'm gonna call magnecor back and raise this new issue.

My LR tech has been working on LRs for a long time and originally traveled the world with CAT as a mechanical engineer specialzing in hydraulics. that's how he got into LRs...every backwoods country he was station, he had LRs to travel around these 3rd world countries and job sites.

any thoughts? comments? thanks

I noticed the ceramic disk on the stock ones, and no, it didn't look to me like you could remove them and install them on the Magnecors. I put the Magnecors on, they seemed to fit fine, and I haven't had any problems yet.

Maybe cheaper wire sets do this. If you want to save labor down the road, replace your valve cover gaskets now, as they are as accessable as they will ever be...
I just did mine, at 6yrs old 90k miles. To be expected, and I will probably be doing this again in about the same time/mileage frame.

I have been running magnacores on my Rover for the last 3 years without issues.... of course I do have the 8mm. Got them for $69, so I can't complain.

I had some wires that the previous owner had installed, and on 3 cylinders the posts on the ignition pack were BLOWN away...and i am sure i was runnin on 7 cylinders for a bit, it was pretty ugly...but my 8mm mags i have on now no issues whatsoever...get them...you do not want to replace the ignition pack on a DII my DI was easy...just a lil pricey 200 for a used one...but got the mags thrown in lol...
