Well, I have 225 miles now on my Rover since I bought it on Saturday, and over that period I'm getting 16.4 mpg with a mix of highway and city driving.

tires are checked weekly and i really dont have a heavy foot. The only octane ever to see my gas tank was 91 or 93. Im gonna have the dealer check it out when it goes in. probably tell me that i didnt buy a Prius and to live with it. but its worth checking.

on another note, i swear that i hear detonation once in a while. i would imagine that the super mainframe central brain processing unit would show a code or some random error but has yet to trip any lights.

Has anyone actually tested to see this effect on the LR3?
http://money.cnn.com/2008/03/26/autos/slow_down_save_gas/index.htm?cnn=yes

Every 10 mph faster reduces fuel economy by about 4 mpg, a figure that remains fairly constant regardless of vehicle size...

...In a typical family sedan, every 10 miles per hour you drive over 60 is like the price of gasoline going up about 54 cents a gallon.

of course, this is the statistic I go by... :)
...Driving 10 miles per hour faster, assuming you don't lose time getting pulled over for a speeding ticket, does have the advantage of getting you to your destination 50 minutes sooner on that 400 mile trip.

I have DEFINITELY noticed a decrease in MPG when I crack the 70 MPH barrier. I used the LR3s computer to look at what the AVG FUEL efficiency does and 70 seems to be a line of demarcation. I have not tested other speeds to see if it does in fact have the logarithmic relationship alluded to in the article. I basically have one data point. I have no reason to doubt it. Of course, driving slower and slower on an interstate is somewhat counterproductive, but I may be influenced to keep it right around 65 from now on.

Maybe if EVERYBODY in the U.S. did that, our demand for gasoline would diminish a bit and the prices would self-regulate.

If EVERYBODY in the U.S. does this, I'd like to ask all of you to stay to the right so I can pass easily.

In reading about the MPG challenge I decided to do my own. Yesterday, I drove to work (83 miles round trip, 75% highway) with an imaginary egg under my foot, I used command shift in 6 as much as possible and set the cruise at 55 MPH

Two things happened.

#1 - I got 20.4 MPG.
#2 - I ****** off a bunch of people.

I can say that we averaged 13.5mpg at 90mph through Nebraska. However, this was with a fully loaded car (four adults, luggage, dog, etc). It sounds like the articles say every 10mph over 60 reduces the gas mileage by 4mpg? If that was true, we'd have gotten 25.5mpg at 60. I highly doubt that would have been the case

And I clearly live by the second quote!

I've never towed anything, I live downtown Chicago and it's a stop sign every street corner. I barely drive on the highway. You still think I should get better than that? I did take it on a 450 mile trip last summer and got 22 mpg.........It's actually in for service right now, getting new front bushings to cure the front suspension knock. You think I should ask about the low mpg?

Hmmm - were you getting the 8mpg last summer too (when you were doing your normal driving in downtown Chicago)? If so, then it may just be a lot idling and stop/go traffic. However, if you were getting ~12mpg back then in downtown (which is what I'd expect), I would say something definitely wrong.

Good luck!
