I bought a trailer that has electric breaks, and I now need to install a trailer brake controller. I have the factory trailer kit installed, but I am wondering if I am going to have to take that out and put one that is alittle different than the factory. I was told that cause the factory one goes thru a converter box that it will not work right with all the trailer lights. Any more help would be great.

I do not beleive the factory kit will work with Electric brakes... Also you will have to run the brake control wires from the front to the back (this should be a fun weekend job).

yeah I know, I think i am going to have to bypass the factory plug and add a new one that goes past the factory converter. I knew I would have to run the wires from the controller to the back. I was just hoping that if I ran them that it would work, but with the converter in there, I doubt it will. Thanks.

On our 2004 Discovery we just spliced the reverse light wire to the brake wire on the trailer. What this does is everytime the car is placed into reverse the brakes deactivate, and when the car is in drive the brakes are engaged, and as you stop, the brakes activate by pushing the trailer tounge in.
