Hi - New 2015 LR4 HSE Lux member here from St. Augustine, Florida (bought truck with 24k miles about a month ago). Anyway, I have no experience with Land Rovers; however, my relevant experience has been growing up with 4x4 trucks my entire life - lifting them, off roading, etc.. Also, while maybe a little unexpected, i have also grown up with Volkswagen Vans. For the last ten years, my family has been camping out of my VW Westfalia, so there are definitely some similarities.
I still have my truck and van, but needed something that i could take off road that carried more people - enter the LR4. I looked very closely at the Land Cruiser; however, the styling of the 200 series and the lack of headroom turned me towards the LR4. And, after purchasing and needing some basic information, i stumbled on this chat room and was blown away by the loyalty to the brand and the neat experiences gleaned from ownership. It has inspired me with mine. I have not done anything to it other than putting Duratrac tires on it at this point, but it performs outstanding in the woods and sand, which is where i seem to live for work.
Anyway, moving froward, i need to free up some additional space, so i was looking at the FR Load Bars, but that does not seem to be in the cards. Therefore, i am considering a Voyager Rack since they are relatively close to me and they do not require short rails. I was also considering just OEM long rails; but it seems ridiculous how expensive they are (i.e $700, but then you have to buy bars for a few hundred more... hence the likelihood of purhasing the rack instead). Its crazy to me that LR does not install them as a part of the basic package. Oh well - my best to everyone and thanks for all the help already - doug.
