Shopping online for new tires found some some all season choices with higher wear ratings and lower costs. Hankook Ventus AS, Bridgestone Dueleer H/L Alenza, and Toyo Open County H/T. If I order set, is there any precautions for local garage on how to lift/rack vehicle to mount ties without damaging the air suspension. Manual says to set suspension in 'off road' height and lock before lifting but no instructions on how to lock the suspension in the off road/extended mode?

This is an interesting question.

I recently had all of my brake pads replaced at a Goodyear shop a week ago, and I think they just lifted it up on the rack without doing anything, and I was curious if anything needs to be done with the suspension. You'd think that it would be smart enough to realize when it's being lifted off the ground.

Your sway bars will limit the travel (droop) of the suspension. Lift normally, it will be fine. It's no different than dangling a wheel or two when off roading:

Close to it. It's 2N17X, which is a short little 4 mile off shoot of the 2N17 "Pilot Rock Road" trail between Silverwood Lake and Arrowhead. So it's just east on the other side of the lake from the terminus of Cleghorn. It's a fun trail. A bit more challenging than Cleghorn.

Just lift it.

P38's if you lifted the car by the frame, the airbags would come undone. The suspecsion design of the LR3 is different, and as many times as I've had it in the air, or in the shop to fix it from being in the air, it's never been a problem.
I know of no way to lock the suspension in off-road. I wonder if they meant access height for some reason?, which wouldn't make a pile of sense either. It makes a certain amount of sense to raise the car prior to lifting from the frame, so that the suspension doesn't have as far to sag, and the airbags aren't trying to pull a vacuum through the system as they try to expand. It really doesn't matter.
Just add it to one more thing in the manual that didn't get proofread out.

Hmmm....I lifted my P38 by the frame at least twice a year for 6 years with no problems. Guess I was lucky. Why would the airbags come undone, isn't it the same as getting a wheel in the air while wheeling?
