Alright...I profess my amateur status in terms of Disco screwing around'ed'ness...despite this affliction - I succesfully installed on my 01 Disco II a pair of 751's (spings) with 107's (shocks) in the front. When I got to the rear, my partner and I discovered a real problem - nowhere to stick the 781's (springs). So all we did was the 108's (shocks) and fabricated the little piece of metal to "fool" the SLS sensor and allow the air in the rear to match the coils in the front. All is well for now. Good overall match, consistent level, but now I feel it's a waiting game until something goes wrong with the SLS.
Now for the "hard" part...how the hell do I rig up coils in the rear? I know the SLS is still cool and works, but for some reason I have my doubts. I looked all through EE and couldn't find any sort of instructions for replacing the SLS with coils. I'm pretty sure I want to replace the SLS with coils, right?
Nevertheless, it took a total of 10 hours, I'd say 1-2 hours was spent cleaning the wheels once removed (totally sucky job). As far as the size of the little fab piece to fool the airbag sensor, I wouldn't take the 1" recommendation from EE as gospel, I had to mess with mine and ended up getting in correct on the second try.
As far as the sway bar, again EE recommends to remove it and leave it off. Is this a smart idea if the Disco will be spending 90% of her time on the hardball vs. the trail?
Oh well. With only about 50 miles post OME lift, I would suggest it. The Disco, if nothing else, looks better. I'm getting the BFG 265/75/16's put on tomorrow. I might even post a picture of the little fab'ed piece, I'm pretty proud of it.
If you've read this far, you get the bottom line up front - how do you replace rear SLS with coils? Thanks for reading this far and thanks for any help you may offer.
