On an '04 G4 Discovery with a 3" lift, I have been running BFG 265 75R x 16 T/A All Terrain tires which have been satisfactory for highway and most off road conditions. It is time to replace them, and the dealer informed me with the existing lift I could go to a 285 75R tire and have adequate wheel well clearance. The advantages would be: a) more lift (.5 to 1")
b) more rubber for increased traction
The drawbacks I am aware of are:
a) increased drag on engine and drive train
b) increased fuel consumption (how much?)
c) increased speedometer/odometer error (currently about 7 to 8% with the 265 tires)
I would appreciate feedback from anyone, especially those who have run the 285 tires.
