1998 Land Rover Discovery
117000 miles
started running rough over 1500 RPM's
would correct itself after warming up
mechanic originally could not duplicate problem, had it for a week
finally it happened again, mechanic said it was the mass airflow sensor
replaced it
a day later the same problem appeared
I think it's the oxygen sensors
Ordered a universal one (a pair of them for the front)

problem: I can't match up the colors on the 4 wires
new sensor: two white cables (heater), black (signal), grey (ground)
my old sensor: black, red, yellow, white

any help would be appreciated

Sincerely,
Jessie

running rough over 1500 rpm's.... could be fuel filter or fuel pump... not to mention plugs or wires.

How about a maintenance history.

sensors

The store had given me the wrong oxygen sensors.
They were the wrong size.
The new ones came in today and the 4 colors on the cables matched
the originals. But the electrical connectors were a little different.
I cut the cables and attached them to the original connectors.
After I replaced them the Disco started just fine, and my RPM went
smoothly over the 1500.
I test drove it around town and the highway and it all seems fine now.

Glad to hear it... but I would still wonder what caused the sensors to go bad... generally it is caused by the engine not running properly... I would still check the plugs, wires, air cleaner... even clean the MAF sensor....

Just days before the problems, I had changed the spark plugs, the spark plug wires and the MAF, and the air cleaner was just replaced 3 weeks ago. THe mechanic originally had told me that the MAF was faulty, it could have been it.
