New tire time. My 19" Synchrones almost hydroplaned me into a ditch the other day. Combine that with the fact I'm only going to have my truck for another two years, and I'd like to do my time on some new rubber.

I'm thinking of the Scorpion ATRs. I do just enough off-roading that some more aggressive tread would be nice, but the Goodyear MT/Rs would just be too loud for me, I think.

The general consensus that I've seen from this site is that the Pirelli's are a good tire. Anyone have any long-term feedback? Anyone have any photos?

I have 20 inch Pirelli ATR's on a Ford Expedition EL that I own and they ride nice but had to be replaced at 25k...with proper rotation and care...

19" Pirelli AT/R's are awesome in most conditions. Handle the rain vry well, including standing water. Equally great in mud and runts and general off road use due to the harder sidewall. A great alternative to Goodyear MT/R's.

I, too, have heard good things about the scorpion atr. They are more of a highway biased a/t tire and are geared more towards gravel offroading rather than ******** rock-crawling/mud-bogging. The ATR's on my fathers King Ranch ride really nice and look pretty neat to boot. As for the 18" size, does anyone know if the LR3 could pull off the 265/60/18 with 109 load index, or is it better to stay safe with the 255/60/18 with 112 load index and XL load rating? I'd much rather prefer the 265/60 look, but I know these flat spot in cold weather pretty easily (due to the nylon belts) and my guess is that the extra weight of the LR3 wouldn't help things.

I had to do a little research on speed ratings when you mentioned that. That's pretty impressive for a tire that's meant for a little off-road use. I think I'm going to give them a shot if I can find a set. I'll post pics once the deed is done.

I just went with Toyo Open County H/T's from Treadepot.com. Quiet on dry road, awesome on wet and snow. Very affordable. I believe they also have an A/T. Good luck.

I think the consensus here (from what I've read) is that the Scorpion ATR is pretty much the best choice for an AT tire for the 19" wheel.

There arent to many AT's in that size to begin with, and once you factor in the load and speed ratings, there are even less.

Regardless, this seems to be a well respected tire.

I'm going to be putting them on my HSE shortly as well.

Post some pics up once you have them mounted. Would be nice to see.

...sounds like the ATRs would be good, but jp I'm surprised that you aren't happy with your Synchrones. I've put about 40k miles on mine and they've been flawless and look to be able to handle another 30k miles. I've even taken them offroad a few times and they've heled up pretty well.

An LR3 ending up in a ditch by way of hydroplaning on wet pavement would be pretty embarassing; glad it didn't happen.

I wonder how these Pirellis compare to the Nokian WRG2s...I thought those looked pretty nice.
