2001 Discovery 2 Auto 2.5 Diesel, Has anyone got any pointers as to what the problem is. On initial start-up in the morning there seems to be no revs when engaging reverse and pressing the accelerator. After going through the gear box a couple of times it then operates and the revs come up. This has happened three times over the last week. Once its going there's no problems at all.

Does this just happen in reverse or forward as well?

How many miles?

Last fuel filter change?

Last time injectors were cleaned?

114000 miles, it had a full service 4 weeks ago, apart from this week and even then the wagon never misses a beat whilst running, I've just done over a thousand miles driving down to the south of france and it purred all the way...There's no tell tale signs of injector issues (I'm a reitred Diesel mechanic). As I have to reverse out of the drive its noticeable more so in reverse, but there seems to be hesitation on pick up of revs on pressing the accelerator. Once I've gone through the auto box a couple of times and return back to P the problem goes away and everything is fine for the rest of the day...

Any chance it is a tired fuel pump (doesn't the diesels have 2?) I can't think of anything in the transmission that would cause engine hesitation.

side note, I just got back from Nice France spent a week in the area.... I love that part of France.
