I have had a nightmare time with Car Cannibal...it has been so long since I started dealing with them that they were still called Rover Cannibal! They have had a total turnover of techs and service managers about 3 times and they have still failed to provide me with an engine that runs even acceptably.
It started when I swamped out the 4.6 Bosch engine in my Rangie (definitely my own fault) and I started researching options. To have the dealer put in a new one would have been about $10k. Rover Cannibal told me they had a very nice engine with low miles that had blown a head gasket and they would rebuild it good as new. To buy it and ship it up to where I live and have it installed would save me about $4k, so I did it.
Since then it has been one long nightmare. Within a year that engine started going through oil like crazy. By the time I got ready to drive it down to Cannibal to rebuild it again it was running on 7 cylinders. They rebuilt that engine again and again it was going through oil like crazy in no time. They blamed me for overheating it this time but said they'd sell me a new block at cost and install it cheap and warranty it. I actually fell for that and threw good money after bad.
The next engine was overheating (or at least boiling over) as soon as it was shipped home to me! Oil and coolant passed through the engine at will. It is back down there again and they have had it since June, given me the runaround and not worked on it apparently at all after promising me various times that they were just waiting on a couple parts or it was in the queue to be fixed. I call every day and their current service manager (at least the third I've dealt with) has no backround in auto repair and will not give me a straight answer as to when it might even possibly get done. I call at least three times a week and get no straight answers. I have repeatedly asked that the owner, Ryan Richardson, call me back but he doesn't. He did call me once about 5 weeks ago and say they'd be getting to it soon but wouldn't give me any firm date.
Since that time the mechanic that was assigned to it is gone and I know they have hired at least 3 lately - no idea if they're even certified Rover techs, but I will say that the last time they made it "bulletproof" and sent it up here they used the wrong variety of spark plugs and they weren't gapped to spec - looked like they just took them out of the cardboard and slapped them in as is without gapping them at all!
My advice: don't be penny wise and pound foolish.
