Not sure where you are located, but I leased a 2010 LR4 for my wife back in July, and it had just been put into service as my dealer's service loaner. It had 700 miles on it, and most of the miles were put on my the Dealers manager as he was driving it daily. They let us take it for a couple of days, and when we returned it, it had 900 miles on it. It was an HSE LUX package, but had some extra's we were not interested in (Entertainment System), which brought it's pricing to just under $61k. It was Black / Black and not exactly what we were looking for. I negotiated a price discount of $3k off a new one (providing it was in stock at one of their two dealerships) and or the $3k off plus paying any shipping costs if they traded one from another dealer that better suited our desired configuration. After two days of searching, the dealer was coming up empty. On a whim, I asked, what's the best you could do if I took the service loaner, and he quickly said, $4800 off! Needless to say, we jumped on it and took delivery two days later. He told me that they are allowed to sell the service loaners at Invoice, plus additional discounts as necessary as they get "kick backs" from LR for selling and supporting a service fleet. In the end, what we gave up was just the color we wanted (white instead of the higher cost black) and got the video system for essentially free. The vehicle has been flawless, and I'm soooooo glad we got the black as it really looks awesome! It was my wife that wanted the white, but now she agrees that the Black is sweet! Good luck to you, and I'd suggest doing a bit more negotiating as the dealers will definitely "talk turkey" with you on any instock or service loaner vehicles they have.
Oh, I'm in WI in case you were wondering. We have three dealers here, and there's a ton of them in Chicago. Maybe that might make a difference seeing us consumers have a fair amount of "choice" in where we buy.
cheers,
Joe
