Questions about Stock Subwoofer Inside Tailgate

Recently in my 05 LR3, my bass from the sub has been deteriorating in the past month. Dealer says it's not broken, just losing its touch more or less. Anybody else experience this? I have a few questions if so.

Has anyone replaced their sub inside the tailgate with anything aftermarket?

If so is it a conventional size sub?

Also is there room for an amp inside there? Or would it be better to place under the 2nd row or something?

i believe you can fit one of the pioneer premier thin line subs in there and just put the amp under the back row. i personally just put a JL audio w7 in the JL high output box with a 1000/1 amp but if your looking to have space left i wouldn't go my route.
