Hello-

My 2006 LR3 HSE, 118,000 miles.

I started having random suspension faults a month or so back. Does not seem to be happening at any particular time or driving situation. I also havent notice anything faulty going on, although the suspension seems to noticeably correct its height when the alarm sounds.

Just yesterday the situation seems to be happening more frequently and also i am occaisionally having transmission faults and HDC system unavailable warnings. Again, no particular situation seems to cause this and oddly, but thankfully, i do not notice any performance issue with the transmission when this happens. When this occurs, if i decide to shut her down and restart her, this situation generally corrects itself.

I replaced the battery July '10, so i dont think it related to that.

Any ideas?!

Thanks very much for your consideration.

As far as suspension faults, a major culprit is usually the wiring harness on the left front side that feeds the front left suspension height sensor. Often the harness will get worn from extreme left turns, especially if you have tires larger than stock. Also some have had issues with the "o" rings that are at the suspension manifold.

May be brake light switch or tail light concern.

If you have the GPS/NAV display, you can switch to the 4x4 info display and watch for odd movement of one of the wheels, (or no movement). Sometimes, the display shows one wheel frozen or hopping so that can be a hint as to where the problem is. Other times, it is just to sends you off looking in the wrong direction. If nothing displays as acting odd, then consider below.

Per the link below, click on the Brake Switch file and review. Since you mention HDC and transmission faults, I believe the suspension concern is a reaction to a brake light or brake switch problem. The default solution to all minor concerns with the 3 seems to be to signal the air suspension to act up and throw fits. As best I can figure out, this is consistent with turning small problems into big ones - or making it seem that way.

There is a wiring diagram on the brake switch link that if you follow it closely, shows how the HDC is tied into the tail lights and hence into the suspension computer.

The first question is did you change any bulbs at the back recently and if so, did you install genuine LR bulbs? All bulbs are not created equal.

Secondly, check for proper operation of the four tail light filaments, two brake light filaments, and the two back up light filaments as well as the signal lights, license plate and rear fog lights and the high mount stop LED. If any of the filaments are not working, replace with genuine Land Rover.

If filaments OK, then replace brake light switch - about 25 dollars and relatively easy even the first time.

The odds are, the suspension problems will go away along with all the other problems.
