Mine has finally failed.

Does anyone know if there is a TSB out on this? I'd hate to get it replaced with no repairs and/or revised parts and deal with the same failure in the future.

What failure are you talking about? I'm sure you are aware of the multiple posts on the cable/actuator breaking off inside the tailgate.

The last time I was in the dealer, all they do is replace the same parts with new ones. It broke for me again 30K later. I had the dealer do the retrofit for me, however.

My dealer didn't know of any retrofit. They replaced the entire assembly and it cost under $250. I guess that's not so bad. I got 5.5 years out of it!

Ahh, bummer. I had printed out the retrofit, handed it to my SA and said, "do this." Charged me an hour labor and the tech had fun doing it. :)

5.5 years is good though. Might be user dependent, but I got 30K out of the factory assembly, 30K out of the replaced assembly, and after it failed that second time I decided I didn't want to be there again. (stuck on the beach with a truck filled with gear that I coudln't access.)

Do you have a link to that printout (of the retrofit)?

It's in the search history, but I'm feeling generous :) so here is what I gave to my dealer and it was enough for them to do the work;

Method of attaching the actuactor cable more securely than the factory method.
(This is just a collection of internet posts from people who have tried it – pictures below)

After that I lowered the gate and pulled out the servo to see how it could be rigged back. I settled on getting a piece of steel cable and a crimper and creating a loop that goes thru the actuator hole and back around to the cable, there I will do the crimp.
***********

The cable is located in the lower door. You will have to remove the lower tailgate trim piece off in order to access the cable. (this is a fix AFTER the cable was already broken)
• Once you are in, unbolt the actuator, located on the passenger side,
• then use some needle nose pliers or the like to grab the cable and pull.
• After that, you will need to perform the fix as described above, or purchase a new latch assembly as the cable is not available separately.

******
the latch is in the lower door. i had to remove the back panel and search for the loose cable behind the plastic soundproofing. once i found the cable i pulled it with a pair of pliers to release the hatch. see the pics i posted to do the repair.
You’ll need a crimper tool, some crimper sleeves, and some wire.

I'd get this work done (or do it yourself) some time before the next failure. In my case, it was worth the labor to not be stuck. Good luck!

well they replaced it all. They said that it has been re-designed a little stouter, but I haven't read anything to support that on any message board.
