Are there any factory recovery point on the front or rear. I'm really not to worried about the rear as I normally just use a hitch mounted shackle but was wondering about the front. I've looked high and low at pics and forums and cannot find the info. I now have to wait till Wednesday to pick up my new to me LR3 so I can't look myself.

Cheers

Remove plastic panel under front bumper for front recovery point. One turn on a few plastic screws
is all it takes. You can also do a search on this forum, I believe this has been covered
pretty well.

Cheers thanks. I tried a search but I guess I didn't use the right phrase.

Do guys usually just take the panel off before they go wheeling. That makes sense I suppose. Being under the bumper is there a chance of damage from the strap?

Yes to taking it off before getting on the trail.
No to the strap damage unless you do something careless.

You're LR3 has a hitch? :) Maybe yours has an aftermarket hitch installed, but the factory option is probably a little different than what you are expecting.

There is a rear recovery point as well, accessed via another removable panel.

You'll see once you pick up your new rig.

If you have the gazillion dollar receiver, a hitch shackle works fine. But in this case the factory tow point works great.

Ok you now have me concerned. One of the first things I was going to do was get the dealer to install a hitch. Am I in for a surprise? I tow a lot of things and a hitch is a must.

Find a used one on ebay/craigslist/local classified or buy new from http://www.bputah.com/. Also get the trailer wiring kit from http://www.roverparts.com/ and install it yourself. This will safe you a lot of money.

Wiring kit is $120 and hitch is $375 new. Pretty silly (and that's not even the genuine wiring kit).

I thought I spent $100 at bputah for the wiring, bought the hitch for $250 used. And you're not in for any surprise, I think jpl just meant you cant stick a recovery hitch into the stock 'hole' in the LR3, you need the receiver.
