Got my letter on Saturday. Appointment on Thursday. Will they fill the tank up or should I try and go in with a nearly empty tank. I would be a nice gesture for Land Rover to fill it all the way up, for me that's about $55!

New Gas Tank

Hello,

a pleasant experience in San Jose. Went in for my 15K service. Noted
a problem with my fuel gauge and a funny leak near the A-pillar after
a car wash (it rarely rains here). The service advisor let me know about
the recall (gas tank), and the service bulletin (a-pillar). Both were fixed
along with the 15K service completed by noon the same day. I handed
my LR3 loaner back to them and drove off with my cleaned, filled-up
(new gas tank filled with premium), non-dripping LR3. Easy.

Fuel tank problems

We bought a 2005 LR3, SE about 12 weeks ago. Although we loved it for the first 6 weeks, it now has been in the shop for 6 weeks already awaiting the infamous fuel tank repair. After I called the dealership last week, they told me it might take a few more weeks. In the mean time we have been driving Ford SUV's. The dealership is downplaying the whole thing and the story seems to change every week.

What a nightmare! My wife has been driving BMW's for years and she is now pretty upset that she did not go for another (bullet proof) X5. What kind of remedies do we have? Does anyone have any suggestions?

You had a fuel tank failure? My LR3 is "at risk" (in the recall), but nothing has gone wrong. Are you waiting because they can't get a new tank? Unbelievable, as you'd get priority since you are out-of-service. Escalate!

Anyway, check your state's Lemon Law. In many cases, if the vehicle is out of service for 30 days... it's a "lemon" and fairly easy to resolve.

Bullet proof X5? The reliability history of the X5 is pretty poor, too... especially the first few years. And X5 owning neighbor would agree!

I checked on local lemon law and apparently it only applies if a similar problem occurs several times in a row. They are still waiting for the tank, pump, etc. We only had some minor issues with X5, but never any catastrophic failure and yes...the LR3 got stranded, drowning the engine in gasoline as the grommet around the fuel breather pipe got loose. Hope it won't happen to anyone else.

In California, lemon law is 3 failed repair attempts (for the same problem) or 30 days out of service. Still don't understand why they can't get your parts... I know 2 people that already had their "recall" performed, even though they didn't have a problem!

Contacted my dealer in Dallas yesterday. My truck is on the list for tank replacement. I have not had an issue with the tank by the way. When I asked my service advisor how far out we are looking until I can get mine installed she said 11/28. No back ordered tanks there it seems.
