Good morning,

I have a 1993 Disco (2.5 TDI) manual gearbox. I pulled it off my drive yesterday and - got as far as second gear and the gearbox would not allow me to select any other gears - it was stuck fast. I could dip the clutch no problems, obviously it lost drive when i did so i dont think it was the clutch because what happened next was i lost my cool with it...

i now have a floppy gear lever, and its still stuck in second. I think i know what i need to do, anyone experienced this - is it the end of the gearbox?

Please help - im gutted!!!

Welcome to the forum.

It could be as simple as removing the top of the transmission and finding the gear selection fork has came loose...

Oh Dear!

Thanks for your reply - with brute force and ignorance, i took the lid of the transmision.

The gear selector fork (i assume that what it is - it looks like it fell off the spindle; kept it place with a small grub screw?) was not attached at all. Within it is a ball with a hole in it - i assume this receives the bottom of the gear stick. the ball floats on a tapered cradle - which looks damaged - some minor cracks in it. I have also found a circlip - or a very thin split washer - i assume its there to secure something.

I really could do with a schematic diagram, im going to have a go at putting it back together but am strugling with orientation etc...

Can anyone help please.

Not feeling as bad now - I hope that nothing else has been damaged and fallen into the guts of the gearbox - hopefully a schematic will help my search!!!.

Download the Rave manual in the bottom of my signature, I think it has the Gearbox schematic.
