service engine light

I'm sure this has been hashed out several times but what is the consensous on the service engine light on a 98 disco. Reset the red box or remove it entirely. What is the effects if it is removed completely

WHY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!??
Just reset it every 80K and don't worry about it.

where is this red box. and how do you reset it.my d-1 turned 130xxx miles and all the lights came on . srs service engine, check engine, and abs.the abs is always on as i took out the fuse.what can i reset without the dealer as i live 100 miles from one.

You need to worry about all the other lights, the emission counter did not turn on all the rest.
