it wont work on disco 1....you past 85,000 miles or so? its probably just the emissions check reminder....you have to have it reset by the dealer...BUT there is nothing you need to change, they might change 02 sensors, but yours are probably ok still....just a reason to 'make' owners bring to a dealer...if you want to end it for sure, then remove the passenger seat kick panel (the one under the glove box), on the right side are a bunch of relay boxes, one is red and says Land Rover Emissions on a sticker on it, just unplug it, your service engine light will go off and you wont have to worry about it any longer!

edit*: as tommy33 said, you can reset by 'shorting' the two wires through the sticker, i opted that in case i ever sold it, id rather have the 'stock' un modified rely box in tact, without damaging the sticker and or whatnot...figured itd be easier to just remove the whole box, im never going to bring it in for emissions other than smog when needed at registration...

You can also reset the reminder by inserting a small jeweler's screw driver into the hole under the sticker on the relay while the ignition is on. You have to touch two metal prongs in the relay at the same time to reset. I just did it Sunday night.

Somewhere way back there is a thread from Joey with visual instructions on this.

This may not be the right answer or even apply to the reason for your Service Engine Soon light, BUT I had this problem too and it turned out I wasn't using the right octane gas. I was using the middle blend and was supposed to be using the ultra-expensive stuff... As soon as I added the super expensive stuff the light went out after being on for a few days. :)

I have never heard of gas octane setting off this sensor. You might have just not been closing the gas cap tight enough--but I am not sure if this will set off the check engine light, or the service engine soon. I use 87 octane in my D1, and supplement with additives, and sometimes put in the high grade...no real SES or CEL light issues as a result
