SES light - MAF cleaner solves for a while

My SES light goes on and off fairly often. I bought some MAF cleaner and sprayed down the MAF sensor good. The light turned off for a week and then came back on. Any suggestions on cleaning it better or is it time for a new MAF sensor?

99 Disco II with 115K.

What codes do you get with the SES light on? At least I hope you have read or have gotten the codes read. Otherwise it is a shot in the dark.

I did get the codes read at auto zone. I have them written down at home, but they were the corresponding codes to the MAF sensor and the two O2 sensors. The MAF cleaner spray seems to clear them all, but not for long.

Ok, in that case a quick question.

1. do you use a stock air cleaner?

Yes, it is the stock Air Intake cleaner off the shelf. Is that no good?

That is good, just checking because if you have ran or are running a K&N type filter you may be over oiling it, which would cause your issue.

You may very well have a bad MAF, they still go bad even though you try to clean them.

For the D2 at least they are cheaper than for the D1.

quick question what do you use to clean the maf sensor, mine seems to be running rich wonder if cleaning the maf would help the problem?? any other ideas, its really hurting my fuel economy ( I know fuel economy and rover ...)

Non-residue contact cleaner....

By the way Rovers run rich, you can rechip it for around $1200 and it will no longer run rich.

Or you may have an injector or two that is starting to go bad.
