So talking with a local guy that works on land rovers, but apparently not a 2005 LR3 HSE, he likes them older. Anyways, his conversation about the trans fault that randomly happens is that it's probably a software issue since it doesn't happen every time and only happens when slow rolling. So question, besides that gap tool, what else would you need to update the software or diagnose what the issue is and fix it? Local guy said even the dealer probably won't do anything and they are well over an hour away, so why waste my time. Suggestions? Thanks

In my experience, reflashing a transmission that old, is a death sentence.
Do a hard reset and let the transmission relearn the adaptions.

What exactly does "reflashing a transmission" mean? Not being a smartass here....honest question.

Reflashing clears all the learned shift points, can change the application of certain valves in the valve body, clutch applications etc.
Usually , engineering feels like they can change the transmission applications to provide a better customer experience.

Interesting. How do you do the hard reset? Is that the GAP tool or is the disconnecting every computer/module and battery?

Disconnect battery for 20 minutes. No need to touch battery terminals together.

Not sure on the GAP tool. The JLR scan tool has a Vehicle Reset feature.

So, you're saying that for older vehicles such as the LR3, disconnecting the battery for 20+ minutes....is a death sentence?
