hello, I am the owner of a 2003 Discovery and can't get the shifter out of park. any help would be VERY appreciated...

a little background: I was hit on the rear driver's side a few days ago and the impact busted my rear bumper so much that the tail light wires were disconnected. I was able to drive it still until yesterday when the stuck shifter happened and now I'm stranded in a parking garage. anyway, I read a few posts and figured the exposed tail light wires shorted the brake light switch so I bought a new one and replaced it - didn't work. is there any way I can get it out of park just enough to drive it to the dealer?

thank you in advance...

Remove the center section around the shifter... and IIRC your should be able to move the shifter lock out of the way so you can shift.

Keep in mind that the brake light switch is a circuit, when it breaks it will not complete the circuit.

thanks for the response Joey! I haven't looked at it yet, but how difficult will it be to remove the center section?

It is fairly easy, you just pop the outer ring off, then from there it is pretty easy to see... can't remember if there are screws or not after that... it has been a while.
