Hi-

I have a 99 disco with a rear sun roof that does not work. It makes no sounds or movements when the button is pressed....which was the least of my worries untill the other day. After a hard rain, the head liner was completely soaked around the back sun roof. There is a very very slight amount of light showing between the glass and the seal. Could this be a bad moter not pulling the glass down tight enough to keep out the water? Any ideas?

Thanks,

Mark

Could be a bad motor or the screws are not tight holding the glass in place....

If I recall correctly the sunroofs have a manual close method, but can't place it this second off the top of my head....

sun roof

don't know if you solved this or not, but I had the same problem, 95 Disco.
Here's what I found out. there are tubes that run along the sliders for the sunroof. these things are supposed to evacuate the water so they don't drip. You have to clean them out. I checked mine but there were fine. Next, check the alignment of the sunroof. Yours has light coming through so it is not seated properly, this is usually caused by the rails getting out of alignment. It's a pain in the tail to fix these, and that's the problem I had. I did this. One: after fixing the sunroof, use the lockout button and don't use it anymore. Two, get a buddy to help you. One of you need to get your hands on both side of the sunroof glass and have the other activate the sunroof to open. Just keep light pressure on the glass to make sure it travels squarely. Next, have the other person push the button to close the sunroof, while you apply pressure down and backwards to get a good seal. You might have to do this a couple of times.
Next, unloosen the headliner around the inside of the sunroof and get some towels. Have your buddy squirt the hose over the sunroof and make sure the seal works and you won't have to use the towels.
If it works you're in business. If not, get the Haynes manual that gives great step by step illustrations of how to clean and adjust the sunroof.
Good luck.

I have the same problem with my 94. Both Front and Rear Sunroofs are pretty much done. Had to use a friend to get the Sunroofs shut tight then I went to the local Hardware store and picked up some black Chauk and completely seal the entire sunroof section.

I also disconnected both Sunroof switch on the front and the one switch in the rear. Removed the Fuse. Pretty much, I got glass Moonroofs.

Thanks for the input Gman. I will give it a try. But first I have a CV joint issue to contend with. This Disco keeps me busy and lite in the wallet.

You can also buy some putty like material to build up the weather seal. Thats if you can get it open again. Its like PlayDough.

I don't know if the top slider type of sunroofs have a water run off rail. The sunroofs that are in sedans and other flat roofed SUV's have a channel along both sides that channels water through a tube. The tube runs from the roof to the lowest point of the car.

Or you could just always duct tape the sunroof
