Last Friday I picked up my 2006 LR3 from the dealer after a front differential replacement (it was making a lot of noise).

Right when I picked it up - I noticed the AC does not blow cold air, but I was in a rush to get home so did not return it. Next morning my warning light came up saying "suspension fault, normal height only". It does it sometimes 1 min - sometime 10 min after I turn the engine on. This light was probably on while I was going home - just did not notice.

I took it back to the dealer on Tuesday (monday holiday). Now they are telling me:
- my compressor died, I need to have it replaced
- my AC needs charging, maybe leaking somewhere, they will have to charge it to discover the leak.

They want to bill me for an other $1500.

My dealer is refusing to admit that their work has anything to do with the new issues.

Did anybody have experience dealing with dealers in these situations?

Do you know what is involved replacing front diff? Does the engine cooling lines / AC lines touched? Does the air suspension pipe touched?

No experience with the differential, but the compressor going out is quite common. Ironic it happened right after they did some work to the truck, but I was only charged around $800 to replace it.

Hi,
On my 2006 the amber suspension light and fault message indicating normal height only would come on shortly after startup. Stop and restart and the message would reset but come back again. When the message is off, the truck would go up and down which indicated the compressor was working. To inquire further i disconnected the battery, jacked up the truck and removed the cover which is held in by (3) 10mm bolts. Got a spray bottle with soap and water and sprayed the hoses while compressor was running. Bubbles were forming at the base of the dryer on the orange tube entry. I tried pushing it in further but it was as far as i would go. Since the dryer is also prone to go bad and with it leaking i decided to replace.
Taking the compressor off is a major PITA especially if you are trying to remove the top screw -- i decided to remove the entire bracket even though the top bolt is also hard to reach, but i manage using a 10mm ratchet end wrench. Removed both the orange and blue air lines from and the single phillips head screw. Rotate dryer and pull out.
I decided to install the compressor/bracket without the dryer. The open space allowed me to hand tighten the top bolt and finish it up with a socket wrench. Once the bracket was in place, i installed the dryer, air hoses and the phillips head screw (this requires a right angle screwdriver).
Removed jack stands, reconnected battery and started the truck. The compressor kicked in then i spayed soapy water to find no bubbles. Took the truck for a test ride, placed it in off-road height and drove 5 mph- then up to 35mph at which point the suspension returned to normal height. Came back home and replaced the bottom cover.
This job took about 1 hour mostly trying to get the top bolt securing the bracket.
The truck has been great for the past 2 weeks with no warming light.
When i think about it now, i could have removed/installed the dryer without removing the bracket which would have reduced this job to 15 minutes or less.
If your compressor is working as mine was, then i would recommend checking for leaks. If no leaks are found you may still want to replace the dryer because it could be the cause for the warning
