Hi everyone,

I’m considering buying a used Range Rover and wanted to get some real-world feedback from owners and enthusiasts here. I’ve read mixed reviews online, so I’m curious about long-term reliability, maintenance costs, and driving feel.

Specifically, how does the range rover 5.0 engine hold up after higher mileage, and are there any common issues I should budget for?

I love the idea of the V8 power and smooth performance, but I don’t want surprises down the road.

Any advice, ownership experiences, or things to check before buying would be really appreciated.

Ive only had my ‘21 for for just over a month, but I’ve had my LR4 with the SC V6 for 9 years and 122k miles. The V6 is literally the same as the V8, just without the 2 rear cylinders bored out.

Rule #1: 5-7k mi. oil change intervals. Don’t follow the manual that states 15k. This will prolong the life of the engine and timing chains which have been an issue in the past, but not as much on later yrs.

Rule #2: cooling system maintenance. The AJ133 has plastic cooling pipes that will get brittle and leak causing catastrophic damage. Change them at 50-60k mi intervals and you should be good. JLR has started making metal replacements so that’s good. If you are handy, these are diy friendly with no special tools needed, just time (4-6 hrs.) and patience. Lots of vids online about it. I’ve done mine twice now with no issues. There is a lot of ‘while you’re in there’ stuff you can do too like supercharger oil and coupling.

-All LR products have the potential for electronic gremlins, but a lot of new cars do these days.
-Air suspension is another possibility for issues. Lots of info on the forum for diy fixes, and lots of YouTube vids as well.
-stay on maintenance and a lot of issues keep at bay.

I’m a big proponent of extended warranties on these as they tend to pay for themselves quickly.

Just recently sold mine after 16 years of loyal service. No issues except for the water pump going out. I was the first owner, and even back in 2010 I did 5k oil changes from the day it left the dealer.

Replace the cooling system pipes, fittings and for sure the "Y" pipe on the 5.0. Oil changes at 5-7K is a MUST! I would also make sure to change the fluid on the diff's and the transfer cases ever 40-50K. If you plan on high miles get extended warranties... I have had a D2, D3, D4 and D5 all have been great! I had a RR diesel and should have kept it. Now I have the RR 5.0 and LOVE IT! Now I must have the new RR with the BMW V8 twin turbo!!!! They're all a joy to drive!

Say it is not so... Can you be more specific concerning the 4.4 Bmw... Are all the hoses and connections on the 4.4 also plastic? I just did a ton of work on the 5.0 SC.. It only has like 40K now... Maybe I should just keep it and enjoy it? I do have a line on a 2024 Autobiography L... Now you have me spooked...

Mostly crimp connections on the plastic coolant pipes.
No catastrophic leaks, though.

Biggest issue with the 4.4l, is people not driving them hard enough.
There can be combustion chamber carbon issues.
