2010 LR4 5.0 V8 intermittent driver-side ticking — exhaust leak?

Since no one mentioned it, the viscous clutch solenoid on the engine fan is famous for making a ticking noise when it starts to go bad. There are videos demonstrating the sound around if you wanted to check that first.

Replaced my fan last year, because it caused 2 compressors to die on me. No difference in noise.

That’s a much different tick then but yea

Mine did the same thing and when I did timing chains, I found the idler bearing had run dry. LR035546GKIT at AtlanticBritish or just change out both pulleys

forgot to mention this but I did do valve covers this summer in july. when i pulled the covers the chains seemed good for 160K. obviously there was a little play because the issue isn't an if but a when, but seeing that these chain tensioners also depend on oil pressure to fully pressurise, I'm not worried about it jumping. the cam and tappets looks good as well, normal wear for mileage so nothing that would indicate that its valve terrain related at a quick glance. still sticking to exhaust leak but very possible that it could be a pulley.
