The LR oil pump

Oil pump modifications………. For a while now I’ve known about the shortcomings of the Land Rover oil pump design. Pure and simple the outer gear is too thin at the tooth engagement point for this material. A simple and medium cost fix is what I did, I took a piece of 15-5 stainless steel and had it machined per sample to exactly both inner and outer gear pecifications. 15-5 stainless is one of my favorite metals, Simply put, it’s TOUGH ! And that’s what’s pumping the oil in my wife’s 2004 Land rover, and it don’t tick…………….
Hope this helps………….. Chongo :bandit:

Cutting new gears

Me, I have access to my friends machine shop……………….. However any reputable, and I repeat reputable machine shop can do this for you. I priced it and it should cost around 4-5 hundred finished honestly speaking. I’m not a full time machinist, but I know the trade well.…….. It does solve the problem It took me about 4 hours to do the inside gear, (a lot of it is set up time because I’m slow), and the outer gear I screwed up the first one, but the second one took a little over 6 hours, not including the screw up. But you got to remember I’m not really quick on his machine, I know how to get it to work for me, but I’m kind of slow on it. A professional should be able to kick both gears out in 6 hours max on a conventional Mill. On a CNC it should be done in about one hour or less……..I’d try and find someone with a CNC machine and have him
Machine both gears for you.
You can buy the gears here for the machinist to use per sample.

It cost around $100.00 but it is a perfect sample

I hope this helps………………… Chongo
