I consider my mechanic quite trustworthy, except they don't proactively try to change things.
Almost two years ago, the oil cooler had to be changed because of a leak. Now I have a small coolant leak, but the fix is to replace the cross over pipes. I feel that given their high probability of failure at 70K miles, I should have been given the option/recommendation to change it and saved myself double the labor money.

Now that it has to go in for a new crossover pipe assembly, should I have them replace anything else proactively for something thats prone to failure ?

Waterpump was already replaced at 40K miles. What about timing chain? Is that worth looking at or is that later for most people?

Thank you

If chain is quiet, just let it be. Keep up on 5k oil changes and it will likely last to 200k +.
In mechanics defense, only those familiar with land rover/jaguar would know about the crossovers. Valve covers would likely start leaking around 120-130k, so I'd just wait until they do.

Im at 175k. Original chains and still quiet (knock on wood!) I change my oil every 4-5k and use 5w30 synthetic I buy in bulk at the wholesale club. When I changed my valve cover gaskets a while back, chain tension felt good with no slop. No idea if its the shorter change interval or heavier weight oil or what, but so far so good.

As far as the crossovers, if they are doing one, may as well do both at the same time TBH.

I used British 4x4 back when I lived in FFX. They were fine back then, not sure if its still the same owners or what.

If your mechanic is trustworthy, ask him. You'd hear a noise if it needed the work. You can also poke your finger in the oil fill hole and if you can move the chain with your finger its loose. I had mine done at 97k mi. If you want proactive and you haven't serviced the transmission then consider a fluid and filter change. How many miles do you have on it now?

I’m at 158k on my 2011 HSE. Original chain but most everything else done. What does “not quiet” mean for the chain? What should I be listening for?

JC’s British in Denver quoted me $11k+ for a chain replacement. At 158k miles I’m inclined to just let it ride. Hard to justify a repair that is almost 2x the value of the vehicle.

Lol, Mine is so noisy that many think its a diesel. But the chains are tight. And a very senior Land Rover mechanic (from the UK and now in Canada, and LR sends him work) says, it can wait. He’s heard louder.
Ditto for the HPFP.

Incidentally, I’m at 200k kms. I get the oil changed every 5k kms. I’m sticking to the spec’d synthetic 0w20. And on 5k, the oil level sensor reports I need 1/2 l top up, thus might as well just change it.
