When I bought my Disco the previous owner had left some Bridgestone Duellers that 275/70r16 in size. I find these are way to big. They rub the radius arms at full lock and I havn't articultated the axles yet to see if they rub the inside of the fenders.
I think i will be safe if i go to a 245/75r16. But.......I was thinking of trying the 235/80r16's instead. I like the tall and skinny tires. Is anybody out there using this particular size? Do they rub?

Discovery

* 235/70-16: Stock tire size.
* 205/80-16: Stock size in many other countries. same height as 235/70-16.
* 255/65-16: same height as stock
* 225/75-16: little taller than stock
* 245/70-16: little taller and wider than the stock size. reportedly, no need for lift, just minor trimming to fit those tires.
*245/75-16: popular size for OME suspension lifted vehicles. require slight trimming on the rear wheel well fender, and may also call for adjustment on the steering bumpstops.
* 215/85-16: same height as 245/75-16. but narrower. seems to be preferred for the snow and mud.
* 265/70-16: about as tall as 245/75-16, but wider. will require more trimming and steering bump stops adjustments along with taller bump stops over the rear axle.
* 265/75-16: almost 32" tall. Same as stock NAS D90 tires. Will require even more trimming.
* 235/85-16: same height as 265/75-16 but narrower. And seems to be the most popular size with OME lift.
* 255/85-16: about 33" tall...very few people have fitted this size. Lots of butchering for this one.
* 285/75-16: about 33" also... but very very wide.

Discovery Series II

* 255/65-16: Stock tire size.
* 255/70-16: Just a bit taller than stock.
* 265/75-16: Taller and wider than stock, possible to fit without lift. minor rubbing. Looks real balanced with mild OME lift.
* 285/75-16: even taller than 265/75-16, r requires a bit more lift than the regular OME lift. some have fitted OME751 from Discovery series I, and changed SLS sensor in the rear to achieve almost 3 inches. Gearing and shaft strenght become issues.
* 255/85-16: a bit taller than 285/75-15 but narrower. Gearing and shaft strenght become issues.

I'll trade you my 235/85's for those Duellers, if they're mud tires :biggrin:

Sorry. Not mud's. They're more like an AT/Sand tire.

I've been running Bridgestone Winter Duellers (245/70-16's) on a 96 Disco with no problems... :biggrin: No triming required and they great all year round.

Since this is the new family wagon, it will see very little time off the road, just the occasional foray a few times a year, nothing too extreme. (extreme is what my Land Cruiser is built for). I think I will go with the 245's since that is the size of my spare tire.

help with tire size

Can I put

ST305/40R22
22 inch 5 lug

I think from the pictures, these are coming off of a Lincoln.

On my 96 range rover. I am not sure what is on there now. I want to buy these tires/wheels but am a girl and think that they will say anything fits. When I call a tire place they won't give me advice unless I am buying from them. I am getting frusterated.

I know of a few people (not personally) that have installed 22 inch rims, but I believe you will have to custom order the rims. Not sure if just any rim will fit on the 96 RR. Either way, that is a lot of money to be spending on rims and tires, but that is just my opinion.

I would call one of the rim places in the back of some of the SUV magazines...

I am 99% sure that a 96 RR has the same bolt pattern as my 96 Discovery. That means that, unless you are buying 22's from a mid-80's Camaro, there is very little to pick from for wheels beyond Rover wheels.

Why would you want Lincoln wheels on a Rangie, anyway? :biggrin:
