for everyone who has a disco series be aware that if the front propeller shaft breaks, it will more than likely break the transmission housing as well as dammage the catylitic converter. causing major damage. lr is aware of this but takes no responcibility what so ever. persional i find this as a major design flaw, and am having a steel cage built around the hooks joint and the front spline shaft to prevent it from happing again. my advise is to keep a close eye on the drive shafts or have a cage built as i am going to do. I think that 2-3 thousand dollars damage for a failed u joint is unconsiconable. THIS IS A MAJOR DESIGN FLAW! LR should have addressed this and should have stood the repairs. sorry this should have been posted in discovery

Almost anyone that has dealt with Discovery's knows about this... not a real design flaw, just makes sure when you replace the parts you use greasable fittings and grease every oil change.

I have all original tie rod ends, ball joints plus went to a steel rear driveshaft the rear rubber joint after ripping apart a couple are a POS joint that also caused vibration problems. This on a 95 D1 I added zerks on all suspension and steering joints. At 138K snug tie rods still. The lifetime OEM joints do not have a grease groove cut around the ball so you must use a tube wilding Vice Grip to "dislocate" the joints only 1/16" out of their socket to let grease past to the grease sack. Joints with zerks already have a grease groove to allow grease past the joint to the grease sack.
On the front driveshaft check the transfer case output flange as that bearing becomes worn and loose over the miles causing vibration as well a failure if not checked at each oil change. You'll then know how it's slowing failing as well causing the seal to slowly fail and leak.
