Transmission "reverse gear ratio invalid" possible project

There a LR3 available on the loval FB marketplace with transmission problems, the seller says that reverse and third gears don't work and it returns a invalid reverse ratio trouble code. Another seller has a transmission for $500. Does anyone know if the problem may be in the valve body/solenoid control section of the transmission or would it be better to swap the whole unit out?

We see a lot of issues with the mechatronic unit on the valve bodies however, this sounds like you may have both issues going on. Best to swap out the whole thing and see if anything changes.
