I thought it would be a good idea for resale value to buy my LR3 with Nav. What I am actually finding is that it's just a pain in the **** because I only use it very rarely and every time I drive it I have to either press a button or look at that silly disclaimer screen. I find myself pressing the turn screen off button the most as I'd rather have the interior of the truck dark at night when I drive.
Now the question, is there any way to keep it turned off? Could I wire a switch into the fuse and only turn it on when needed? (less than once a month). I asked the dealer if I could just rip it out - as I also really miss the use of the cubby it replaces. They said you couldn't remove it because the whole vehicle electronics system relies on it, which I don't believe as they'd have to have two different "electronic systems" for trucks with and without Nav.
Just wonderin'...

As an alternative, cut a thin rubber mat material to size and fit over screen. Done. "Ripping it out" would cause more grief than you'd want.

Yes. ...this has been discussed in the past, but buy the mat LR offers for the non NAV vehicles. It is a long piece of rubber that goes back into the cubby. Cut off the fat end and it fits perfectly over the NAV screen and looks good with the rest of the car.

I bought that part for the long narrow piece that goes on the tray in front of the NAV. The '05s didn't come with that mat and I wanted it.

This is a strange thread. The NAV is great, and seriously...if pushing 3 buttons before you take off is that big of a hassle then there are other issues at play.

Aside from the Navigation function, the 4x4 information screen can be WAY more useful than I ever expected. Plus, sometimes you might need a phone number of a POI and find it in your NAV.

Don't rip it out, that's silly. ...just evolve and be happy.

Houm, I've seen far sillier threads. Some like 22" rims, some don't like pressing buttons...
Fact is, I don't off road, get lost or need directions daily. But I do get in the car and press the button 5 times daily. No, I wouldn't "rip" it out. The mat idea isn't bad, but I question how good it looks. The preferred idea, if any of you service guys know if it's possible, would be to wire up a switch to the fusebox and put it under the dash. Actually, I hadn't thought of it before, but is there a contrast or brightness setting that I could tunr all the way down? I'll go check.

I did the contrast, makes a difference for sure. I'm not going to mess with the fuses until I find someone to tell me that no harm will come, ie no other functions will be impaired.
Thanks for the replies!
