Hello, I just purchased a 1999 Discovery SD. I believe I have one of the last series I disco's made. It was manufactured in mid 98' and sold as a 99'.

I have 16" rim that I believe are 5/165 that came with 235/70/16 tires

Did the wheel offset or lug pattern change mid 99' that would not allow me to use the 18" wheel I have seen on other series II Discovery’s?

If so, are there any other factory 18" wheel options I have?

Thanks

Congrats on your purchase. The DII's have a smaller lug pattern, something like 5 on 4.5 or so, so you can't use DII's wheels.

Just curious, what was your build date? Mine's March of '98 and is a '98 model.

So there was never an 18" wheel option for the disco I ??

Why or why are you thinking about going to 18"s???
Not a good choice especially if you are going off the road, very few 18" tires to choice from campared to 16's and 16's offer a much stronger tire.
Good luck,

I was thinking the same thing. I just figured that there won't be much off roading in his future.

Embarrassingly enough, the thought was primarily driven by looks. Well and the fact that I need new tires soon and I found a deal to get tires and wheels for a good price.

I'm going to stay with my 16's and start reading tire reviews.

Any suggestions to get me started?

Thanks.

I've got an 02 Series II that came w/ the 18 inch rims. I'm switching to a 16 to run BF Goodrich A/Ts (235/70/16). Did a rover run w/ a bunch of pretty tricked out discos and range rovers a couple of weeks ago, and heard a lot of good feedback on them. They hook up good in mud, etc. and still run pretty quiet on the road.

This car does soccer mom duty during the week, so this tire seems to be a good compromise between getting around town and still being able to plow through the muck when needed. Price is good too, ($134/tire at Tire Rack) especially compared to Michelins. :thrasher:

The idle tire size for a D2 without a lift is 245/75/16, other wise you will rub and need to do some body triming, be careful.

I am not sure, I believe the wheel wells are slightly smaller on a D1, you might want to check with John Lee or ** at E.E., they could answer that for you.
