Its true. The hubs and rotor come off in one unit. There are 4 bolts (I think) that need to be removed and they can be a ***** to get off if you dont have an impact wrench handy. The outer wheel bearings and a few washers come out with the removal process. Its a great opportunity to not only... -

First thing, drop the pan and check the oil pickup tube. These usually get clogged up real good. Get a new one if its real dirty. When reinstalling, use some locktite on the bolts. While the pan is off, clean it real good as well. If this doesnt do it, remove valve covers and check torque... -

As luck would have it, the inside pad on the passenger caliper was down to the metal. The rotor was grooved pretty good and none of the parts houses in town carried the rotors. So, I have them on order. In the meantime I went ahead and put in the pads, even on the bad rotor cause its my daily... -

Well, its time for brake pads on the D1. Is it necessary to install new rotors, or can I just replace the pads and go? For some reason, I have always turned or replaced rotors on other vehicles. I think it was my crazy father that said it was bad for both pads and rotors if you put new pads... -

Shifter tape access
Does anyone know how to access the shifter tape on a D1 automatic. Its the black strip of plastic that moves with the shifter. Somehow, the black square gadget that secures the tape to the shifter lever got dislodged and the indicator isnt lined up properly. Thanks, John -

Yep, no caves in Kansas. No trees for that matter. I grew up in Hutchinson, KS back in the 80s and there were a couple of good spots, but the town has expanded so much that they are all occupied. The Ark river had some good wheeling spots. SE KS was good for offroading. -
