First thing, drop the pan and check the oil pickup tube. These usually get clogged up real good. Get a new one if its real dirty. When reinstalling, use some locktite on the bolts. While the pan is off, clean it real good as well. If this doesnt do it, remove valve covers and check torque... -

Shifter tape access
Does anyone know how to access the shifter tape on a D1 automatic. Its the black strip of plastic that moves with the shifter. Somehow, the black square gadget that secures the tape to the shifter lever got dislodged and the indicator isnt lined up properly. Thanks, John -

Yep, no caves in Kansas. No trees for that matter. I grew up in Hutchinson, KS back in the 80s and there were a couple of good spots, but the town has expanded so much that they are all occupied. The Ark river had some good wheeling spots. SE KS was good for offroading. -

One other thing to consider. Mike mentioned adding a suspension to handle the winch. This is definitely worth considering. Adding the weight of a winch and bumper/DAP mount your front will drop at least an inch on stock springs. Im not saying you need to rush out and get aftermarket... -

When the motor is cold, start it up and place your hand around the exhaust manifold and feel for leaks. The gasket that mounts the manifold to the exhaust pipe is also prone to leak. Sometimes you can tighten the bolts for a quick fix. Good luck -

Are you sure its valvetrain noise and not a cracked exhaust manifold, blown exhaust manifold gasket, or loose plug? These sometimes mimic valvetrain noise and do get louder upon throttle. -

Oil Pan removal
It can be done on ramps. Yep, you'll have to remove the stabilizer and sway bar. Just unbolt the sway bar bolts at the end of the bars and it should just swing down. Of course, drain the oil first. This would be a good time to run a can of engine flush prior to draining the oil and dropping... -
