I just picked up my new 2008 LR3 last week. What is a 1791 hack? I feel like an idiot.

So if you have a 2007 or 2008 LR3 or Range Rover and want to do the 1791 hack. It won't ever work.

I have to post this. I've had about 20 questions in my inbox regarding this:
The NAV DVDs from 2006/2007 as well as the 2008 DVD will NEVER allow the 1791 Nav. Hack.

You Ask Why?
-Because both those two DVDs install a file on the car's computer that blocks 1791 FOREVERRRR. There is no way to get around it, I wish I knew how to write the programming to disable it, but Navteq won't return my phone calls.

So how will it work?
Basically if your LR3 or Range came with the 2004 disc, and has never seen a 2006/2007 or 2008 DVD then the 1791 Nav Hack will work. You can update to the newer discs, but you'd have to follow the process to removing a specific file that is noted earlier in this thread.

Sorry for the disappointment to you all with the newer LR3s, but there's no known way to get it to work.

-Peace.

1791 works with loading.kwi

:hello:
So, I read lot of posts and understood that once a 2007/2008+ Nav DVD goes in it disables the 1791 hack. I also read that when people entered the 1791 code all buttons were greyed out. Same thing happened to me, numbers were greyed out and no further diagnostic screen was available. According to some of the posts a diagnostic screen is suppose to show up after the 1791 hack. Anyway, i drove and was able to use the NAV, address input, POI, everything while on the move. Oh, did i mention i didn't exlcude the loading.kwi file!!!!

Vehicle - 2006 LR3 HSE, came with original 2006 DVD, version.txt=2005.1
Obtained 2007/2008 DVD, version.txt=2007.1. Burned image/nrg using Nero. Didn't exclude the loading.kwi file because i was unaware of the fact. But to my surprise the 1791 let's me use the NAV on the move.

So, all you guys who claim once an update DVD is used and yada yada, what's going on? Did you mean the diag screen will be blocked or unable to use NAV on the move or both?

Interesting. I know plenty of people who have PMed me asking why they can't use 1791. And what I find is they installed either the 2006/2007 or 2008 DVD. If what you're saying is correct... that means by some reason your situation is the only exception I've ever run across.

But as you're moving, you hold you finger on a certain point on the screen. Then the diag-box comes up. Once that's up, you enter "1791" nothing actually happens then, you just hit the back arrow, and wallah! you can now change your destination while on the go.

What should happen if the 2006/2007 & 2008 DVD were ever installed, it was known to patch the 1791 trick. Even people on Disco3 forums posted on this. If I'm not mistaken, it will still allow you to pull up the diag box, but when "1791" is entered, destination on the screen is still grayed out and you cannot change your destination on the go.

The only thing I can think of is, maybe ONLY the 2006/2007 DVD installs the 1791 patch. Perhaps the 2008 DVD loading.kwi file assumes that 1791 has already been patched and installs other updates?

Can anybody verify? I'm sure as hell not putting my Land Rover Issued 2006 or 2008 DVD in my car to try. Haha. Someone that thinks they installed the 1791 patch to block it, try doing what "vikjts" did.

Check the following for the Disco3. See the links listed inside as well.

So in checking with the newest 08 NAV DVD, I can still use the 1791 hack to enter and manipulate addresses on the go. It appears, at least with the DVD I have, the hack still works..
